, think again. remember, the young senator obama just 47 years old in 2008 when he faced senator john mccain who was 72 at the time. needless to say, then senator obama held his own. but there's no telling who will win tonight. one thing is for certain, though. they're both equally passionate and energetic winning people over to their party come november 6th. with me right now, the dynamic duo. cnn political reporter peter hamby and paul steinhauser. good to see you. paul, first things first, when we're talking about the controversial romney 47% comments, do you think biden will go there tonight where his boss did not? >> i think a lot of democrats want that to happen, brooke. there's disappointment, peter, i think that's obvious. the president wasn't going very aggressively against mitt romney over the 47% controversy, over bain capital, the tax returns. i think vice president biden is not been shy at all in the campaign trail, brooke. that's fair to say. what we're looking at tonight is, is he as aggressive going after not the guy sitting next to him but his boss, mitt romney.

of the foreign policy say, they say that for all practical purposes the obama administration has given up on the israeli-palestinian peace process and came in with huge expectations, george mitchell, the former u.s. senator, who negotiated the peace agreement in northern ireland, he was brought in to negotiate an israeli-palestinian peace agreement and that didn't work out well as all of us know for a variety of reasons and since then the obama administration has done very little if anything to revive and there hasn't been much effort to get the peace talks back on track. what romney is trying to do is say if he comes in, he will work on that area and knowing that it is not easy and knowing there is problems and knowing that there are palestinians and he will refer to the palestinians, for example, hamas and gaza and others who are unwilling to accept israel under any conditions and having said that, there will be other palestinians who presumably will be ready to start the peace process and see if anything can happen down the road. as you know, ashley, all of us that covered thi

to laugh. because while it is true, senator obama did not have a lot of foreign policy experience, what he did to shore that up was to bring in joe biden as his vp candidate. what did mitt romney do? he brought in paul ryan who has even less, if you could imagine that, foreign policy experience except maybe perhaps voting against tougher sanctions on iran while he was in congress. as far as that argument's concerned, i think it's rather debunked. i want to read to you very quickly a quote from mitt romney from that video with the 47%. this is his -- this is his foreign policy in a nutshell. so what do you do -- this is about peace in the middle east. you say you move things along the best way you can. you hope for some degree of stability. but you recognize this is an unsolved problem and we kick the ball down the field and hope ultimately somehow something will happen and resolve it. that's what mitt romney said on foreign policy behind closed doors. whatever he says today in a couple of hours, you got to juxtapose that to that quote in the video when he thought no one else was l
